Description
“Arc“ is a quintessential example of Australian artist Gerwyn Davies’ signature approach to contemporary portraiture—a playful, camp exploration of identity, costume, and theatrical concealment. By fabricating complex, hyper-visible neon architectures out of mundane, low-brow materials (in this case, sliced foam pool floatation devices), Davies completely obscures his facial identity while amplifying his presence against the stark, saturated blue backdrop of an empty concrete pool. The resulting image toys beautifully with the boundaries of fashion editorial, performance art, and sculpture. [1]
